A bio-based economy is a key pillar for the development of a low carbon, circular economy.
This also makes it a key priority for policymakers, investors and innovators across Europe.
COWI has been assigned to lead a major study on the innovative bio-based economy on behalf of DG Research and Innovation.
The objective is to provide the basis for stakeholders such as policymakers, the scientific community and primary producers to make informed decisions about bio-based products.
As part of the project we will analyse the environmental impact of specific innovative bio-based products such as beverage bottles made of PET from sugar cane.
Also the project will be used to raise awareness of commercial and financial success stories to a broader stakeholder community within the EU.
Finally, it will identify the top 20 innovative bio-based products that hold the greatest promise for implementation over the next 5 to 15 years.
